Caála annually loses 10 thousand tons of products from different

Caála – Ten thousand tons of various products, including vegetables, tubers and roots, are spoiled annually in agricultural fields in the municipality of Caála, Huambo province, due to lack of drainage.

The director of Agriculture in that municipality, Fátima André, said, during the launch of the digital tool “Kepya” (mining, in the Umbunndu national language), that every year 300 thousand tons of different products are produced by a group of 66 thousand and 205 peasant families.

She added that these peasants are organized into cooperatives and agricultural associations, with an area of 41,535 hectares of arable land, distributed in the communes of Calenga, Catata, Cuima and Sede.

Fátima André informed that the Kepya tool aims, above all, to solve the problems of transporting products from the field to the areas of storage, transformation and consumption.

According to the person in charge, agricultural losses occur due to lack of adequate disposal, combined with the financial insufficiency of producers for renting vehicles and the poor vision of agribusiness.
